It’s tough to be a professional speaker. I should know… I’ve been supporting professional speakers virtually since 1995. During that time I’ve amassed some helpful links for speakers as listed below. If you know of a resource that should be listed here please let me know.
Professional Organizations:
National Speakers Association: The most well known association for speakers and companies that sell services and products to speakers. They offer a great deal of help to new and experienced speakers.
Toastmasters International: This is another organization that is helpful to a new speaker. Toastmasters helps members with presentation skills and other issues pertinent to professional speakers.
Sites that sell products/services to speakers:
The Butterfly Herder – A business that sells web design and online strategies for speakers.
Speaker Services:
E-speakers – This is an on-line calendar and database that can be used by speakers bureaus to determine your availability. Fee charged for use.
Tom Antion – This guy is amazing. He is a professional speaker and offers products and services for speakers such as a free newsletter, an e-book for marketing speakers called “Click” (this is a wonderful resource for any marketer) and training and consulting services for speakers.
Sullivan Speaker Services – Helps speakers and speaker bureaus to market themselves more effectively.
SpeakerNetNews – Has a wonderful weekly newsletter (see below) and offers frequent teleseminars by speakers and experts who help speakers. Miss the seminar? They tape and sell the teleseminars on-line.
Book More Business – Lois Creamer coaches and teaches speakers on the fine art of marketing.
Web Sites That List Speakers (non bureau):
MightyMinds.com – Place a free listing on this website.
Speaker Mix – Every speaker gets a free listing on this site.
Newsletters/Magazines:
SpeakerNetNews.com – This weekly e-mail newsletter is chock full of great information for speakers and has an archive in addition to compilations of information provided for speakers by speakers. Don’t pass this one by.
Great Speaking – A wonderful newsletter filled with tips for speakers. Also includes jokes and other humor ideas for your speeches.
Successful Meetings - Publications for meeting planners that may be of interest to speakers.
Professional Speakers Resources – A Facebook group for people discussing resources for speakers.
Hiring Help:
Davis Virtual Assistance – I offer support services to speakers, consultants and coaches.
Speakers Bureaus:
This list will be updated constantly. Please do not send unsolicited materials to these bureaus or any speakers bureau. Check their website or call to find out if they are accepting new speakers and ask what materials they need.
